What is Turkish coffee and how is it made?
Turkish coffee uses very finely ground beans brewed unfiltered in a small pot called a cezve. It's served in small cups where the grounds settle at the bottom. Often prepared with sugar (sade, orta, or sekerli). UNESCO listed it as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2013.
Where are the best coffee shops in Istanbul?
Kadıköy is known as Istanbul's coffee capital, with Petra, Kronotrop, and Coffee Department. In Karaköy, try Karabatak or Coffee Sapiens. For traditional Turkish coffee with a view, visit Pierre Loti Café in Eyüp.
Is coffee culture growing in Turkey?
Yes! While Turkey historically was tea-focused (Turks drink 4kg of tea per person annually), specialty coffee has boomed since 2015. Istanbul now has over 4,000 coffee shops, with third-wave cafés growing 30% yearly.
